Biodiversity Event: Our community gathered for a morning of discovery and connection, journeying through the Slocan Watershed’s remarkable landscape. The event was well received by all who attended.
Event Highlights
Elliot Tonasket, Okanagan Syilx Knowledge Keeper, opened the event with traditional song and storytelling about salmon in the Upper Columbia Basin. He carries the message of the interconnected natural world, traditional ecological knowledge, and the urgency of protection.
Gary Davidson – A dedicated birder and naturalist from Nakusp, whose photography reflects decades of field experience in BC and beyond. He has a keen eye for capturing unique moments in nature. His observations and documentation over decades is invaluable.

Ryan Durand– A professional biologist and ecologist shared information of Slocan Valley biodiversity, wetland restorations, and Species-at-Risk identification. His consulting work for SLSS, across BC and beyond is a valuable contribution for protection.
Tyson Ehlers – A Slocan Valley ecologist who has documented thousands of local species and discovered a new slime mould. He is passionate about ecosystem evaluations, research, and knowledge sharing. Consulting work for SLSS, BC and beyond is a valuable contribution for protection.

Wendy King presented on Citizen Science and the Slocan Valley iNaturalist living project, inspiring many attendees to download the app and become active contributors to documenting local biodiversity.
