Toadfest is a yearly event sponsored by Fish and Wildlife Compensation Program (FWCP) at Summit Lake Provincial Park, usually in August when the toads are migrating from Summit lake to the uplands. Up to 20,000 toad-lets are safely moved across the highway.
The western toad is a Species of Special Concern (SARS), and Summit Lake is one of its most important breeding sites in B.C. The free, family-friendly event helps protect thousands of toadlets as they cross the highway. Visitors participate in interactive displays, hands- on activities, learn about local wildlife and connect with local stewardship groups, including SLSS.
Toadfest is organized by the Fish & Wildlife Compensation Program with support from B.C. Parks, Indigenous partners, local stewardship groups, and many volunteers.
